Fantasy Quest: The Kings Throne: The Elysian Blade of Truth
This is the Fantastic Indie Authors transcript from an interview with Fire and Ice Book Tours!
In your own words, describe your book….
The story is basically about a King and Queen in a fictional world who are duped by a wizard. The king is imprisoned, and the queen escapes with aid of a master swordsman. The queen must complete a task if she wants the master swordsman to help find her husband and restore the king’s throne. Meanwhile, the king befriends a dragon man, and they escape. They travel to the Kingdom of Fire, and the king learns about his legacy. The Fire Queen says she will help them if the king agrees to deliver his ancestors promise. A few adventures happen, and the king and queen finally meet again. With the help of the swordsman, a dragon man, and a dragon emperor they fight the wizard and win. The king seeks revenge, but an alternative is agreed upon by dragon emperor. It has a few plots, many subplots, and a couple of surprises as well. I don’t want to spoil it too much.
What is the genre?
I thought I was writing a Fantasy Quest, but some people who have read and reviewed the story, have used Traditional Fantasy, Adventure Fantasy, and even Fantasy Epic.
What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve always read fantasy and sci-fi, so I decided to write my own stories. In the past, I used to jot words down, but one of friends said to publish them. I was always afraid to do that, but it seemed like a good idea, so I wrote the first book, and now I’m into the second one.
Will this book be a standalone or part of the series?
It’s part of a series of three books. The series is taken from ideas that I’ve kept for years and done nothing with. The series starts with book 1 and sets the framework of the Kingdom of Aldamanis, a serious quest to regain the king’s throne. Book 2 is set a long way into the future with repercussions from book 1. Book 3 will go back and look at how the Kingdom ended up in such a mess.
What books are similar to this one?
Well! I thought the book was pretty original, but I’ve been told they are akin to books by authors Terry Brooks or David Farland. I started following the two authors, and now I’m reading David’s series “The Ruinlords” and Terry’s “The Sword of Shanarra” series.
Where can readers find your book?
Mmmm, at the moment I’m locked into Amazon and Createspace, but I have produced two editions. One, paper and the other is electronic. You can find it on Amazon and in Createspace distribution channels. If this goes well, I’ll expand the distribution latter!
Tell us one thing about you we wouldn’t know?
Good question! So many people have said they can see the book as a movie. I just usually brush it off, scoff a little, and move on. But, I haven’t told this to anyone. I secretly want to see it on the big screen. I know, I know!, but that’s what I would like to see happen. It’s a pipe dream, but a good one!
What has been the best moment in your writing career?
I’m a debut author. The best moment was seeing the book in print, in my hand. What an exhilarating experience, being able to read an actual book written by me. By the way the second best was a few reviews that really seem to appreciate the book and the style of writing. Here, let me read you this! This is such a wonderful comment and you can see why I’m so chuffed.
“… this book was thematic and inspiring, revelatory and though-provoking. With each turn of events, each chapter, I constantly found myself wondering just who this author was that had somehow been able to fashion such a magnificent work. If there were ever a cataclysm so great as to cause for a fractional selection of books to preserve for humanity, reflecting man’s greatest talents and admirable art, this book would be among its paramounts. I cannot stress the inadequacy of this review; you simply must read it for yourself! Mealea Mathews has outdone herself in this epic tale, creating for herself a reader’s expectation of equal grandiosity in her works to come!”
How’s that! It came from a reviewer from Online Book Club. These words make it all worthwhile.
How do you come up with the titles of your books?
It’s a bit odd actually. I come up with title before I start. When I’m finished, I research the title and if it doesn’t match the story, I change it to mean more of what the book delivers. The first title of this book was “The Quest of Queen Andrea”, but I decided to change it to “The Elysian Blade of Truth” as the actual sword appears in the 3 books.
How long does it take you to finish a novel?
Well! 3 – 6 months, but it does vary depending on work and home life.
How can readers connect with you?
That’s easy! I would love to interact more with my readers more. Just come over to my website and register or Facebook page and like it. I’m also on Twitter. Just search for Mealea Mathews. Your sure to find it. Once in, you’ll get all my updates about the series.
What are you working on now?
My second book. Its title is “The King’s Throne 2: The Quest of the Black Swordsman”
Do you have any other books already released?
No, not yet, but in July or August I’ll try to release book 2
Thanks for letting us interview you!
Yeah, no problems. It was quite enjoyable, a little different than I thought but enjoyable. Thanks for opportunity to display may work.
